Thank you to all who were able to join us in Tasmania this past November. It was an exceptional meeting, and we thank the local arrangements team for organizing such a wonderful event.

POST-CONFERENCE TOUR

**Post-Conference Tour tickets are only available until 1 August**

🚢 Spots on the IHSG Post-Conference Tour and Accompanying Persons Tour are filling fast – don’t miss out!

IMPORTANT: Due to booking requirements for the Spirit of Tasmania, tickets for the Post-Conference Tour through Victoria and southern New South Wales must be purchased by 1st August 2025. Tickets are limited to 100 people so don’t miss out!

Following the Conference in Launceston, delegates will travel from Tasmania overnight on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry to visit pasture seed production areas in Victoria and southern New South Wales.
Highlights will include:

Travel from Tasmania to Victoria on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry
Visit to DLF Seeds in Leigh Creek
Visit to AGF Seeds in Smeaton
Overnight stays in Bendigo and Albury
Visit Corowa Seed in Corowa
Visit Baker Seed in Rutherglen
Cultural visit to Inglewood Eucalyptus Distillery Museum.
All breakfast, lunch and dinners

The day will focus on practical applied agronomy and Tasmanian crops. Tickets prices will be reduced for the day and will be on sale closer to the date. Register your expression of interest to receive Growers Day and conference updates.

Call For Abstracts Extended to 15 June 2025!

Call for IHSG 2025 conference plenary papers and posters** Extended until 15 June **All interested IHSG conference participants are encouraged to submit an oral and/or poster abstract. Abstracts focusing on pasture (herbage) seed production of both temperate and tropical grass and legume species will be considered.

Deadline for submission of abstracts is now Sunday, 15 June 2025.

Do not forget, Abstract Submission is now open for the 12th IHSG Conference in Launceston, Tasmania this November. Submit abstracts any time prior to 30 May, 2025. All abstracts will incur a AU$40.00 processing fee. Abstracts should be submitted in English and should focus on pasture/herbage seed production of both temperate and tropical grass and legume species. Abstracts can be submitted for oral or poster presentations. This is an excellent opportunity to present your research to a global audience and all are encouraged to submit! Instructions for how to submit are available on the Conference Website Abstract Submission Page.

While you are at it, make sure to Register for the conference, too! The conference will be held from 16 to 19 November, 2025, followed by a post-conference tour from 20 to 22 November, 2025. Registration for the conference is now open. Tickets will be available until 1 August, 2025 or until they are sold out. And all should be aware that FAR’s Arable Research In Action Field Day will occur in the week after IHSG Tasmania in New Zealand. If you are able to extend your trip to 26 November, 2025, this would make for a great addition to the IHSG Conference. See the FAR Website for details.

We also have articles about the recent Canadian Turf and Forage Seed Conference, an update from the UK on production outlooks, and a subject matter update focused on international plant pathology concerns for the industry.

Finally, we have amazing members to feature. As many are aware, Tom Chastain has retired, and this edition pays tribute to his contribution to the global herbage seed industry. We also share about a new position for Nicole Anderson as a research scientist for NIBIO in Norway. And we are looking to highlight the next generation in the herbage seed industry. We kick this series off by introducing everyone to Ana Faber of INIA in Uruguay.

Please join the IHSG in Launceston, Tasmania this November for the 12th International Herbage Seed Group Conference! The Tasmanian Seed Industry Group Inc. and local arrangements team have been hard at work to develop an excellent program for herbage seed researchers, industry members, and growers from all over the world. The conference will be held from 16 to 19 November, 2025, followed by a post-conference tour from 20 to 22 November, 2025. As we start the new year, we are gathering content for our Newsletters. The IHSG posts Newsletters two times per year. We would like to encourage more participation by soliciting newsletter content from our membership. If you have an idea for an article in an upcoming newsletter please fill out the form linked below. The newsletter editors will contact you as new editions are developed to include your stories. 

We encourage you to provide us with content highlighting a research program or seed production industry, upcoming events relevant to the herbage seed industry, recent research highlights, and new faces in our herbage seed community. All ideas are welcome. See our previous Newsletter Articles for ideas on typical article topics and length.

Two Newsletters Available Now!

Hello IHSG Membership,

It is a pleasure to be participating in the IHSG as the Communications Director. I want to sincerely thank Dr. Tom Chastain for all his efforts on this website and setting me up for success. I look forward to sharing IHSG updates, newsletters, publications, and more through this platform with all of you.

I also want to thank Dr. Phil Rolston for his tireless work getting newsletter content together. Due to the recent turnover of the website, we have posted Newsletter 57 and Newsletter 58 in quick succession. Both are available and highlight exciting research and seed production programs around the world. Head to our Newsletters Page to find these two Current Newsletters, all our Past Newsletters, and contact information for our Newsletter Editors. Going forward, you can expect two Newsletters per year along with a Post like this, notifying you of the new content.
