Newsletter Issue 43 September 2010

Welcome to the 43rd edition of the IHSG newsletter.

I would like to introduce Jason Trethewey as new IHSG newsletter editor. Athole Marshall informed me in spring, that he wanted to resign as the newsletter editor. On behalf of IHSG I want to thank Athole for all the work he has put into the newsletter since he became editor in 1998. “Thank you very much, Athole”.

Abstracts from the President’s column

In April 2010 delegates from the International Herbage Seed Group gathered in Dallas, Texas for the 7th International Herbage Seed Conference. I want to thank the local organisers Lloyd Nelson, Gerald Smith and Gerald Evers for preparing such a successful conference! All together 75 delegates attended representing 20 countries, and I want to thank all of you who participated in making our meeting a success. Thanks also to those of you, who presented your work either in oral and/or in poster presentations. We had many interesting presentations, and I think, we could have spent more time for presentations and discussions. We should keep this in mind when planning the next conference. You can find poster-abstracts and the presented papers in the conference proceedings at http://www.ihsg.org/content/proceedings-2010.

One important issue to point out is that it was decided that our next meeting will be held in New Zealand as a satellite meeting in association with the International Grassland Conference (IGC), which will take place 15th to 19th September 2013 in Sydney, Australia. Phil Rolston is heading the local organizing committee, and the meeting is planned for Christchurch. Furthermore, the IGC will include a session on Herbage Seed Production. We will make sure to inform IHSG delegates when the call for papers is announced.

Further to this I’m happy to inform you that Lanzhou University, China, has expressed an interest to host the next IHSG-conference in 2015. I have asked Lanzhou University to provide further information such as a suggestion of venue, date, post conference tour and budget for us to make the final decision during our workshop in New Zealand. Other host-candidates for the 2015 conference are invited to contact me.

Please, keep in mind to send information on meetings, new publications etc. either to me or Jason and we will make sure to place your information either on the web-page or in the newsletter.

You can find the newsletter in full length in the attachment below.
