The IHSG Workshop, being held in Methven, in the heart of New Zealand’s Canterbury seed growing area, follows on from the XXII International Grasslands Congress, in Sydney, Australia.

Friday 20 – Sunday 22 September, 2013

Travel from Christchurch through the wine growing region of Waipara and stay the night in beautiful Kaikoura, New Zealand’s whale watching capital. After a morning spent on a whale watching boat, drive through a hill country pass to the alpine village of Hanmer Springs and soak for a while in the natural hot pools. The next day drive through the scenic Lewis Pass to New Zealand’s wild West Coast, then return to Christchurch on the Tranz-Alpine, truly one of the world’s great scenic train trips. Travel across the snowy Southern Alps and experience patchwork farmland, ice-fed rivers, spectacular viaducts, and the beautiful Lake Brunner. Return to Christchurch in time for workshop registration on Sunday evening. Price ($1100 NZ incl) includes bus and train transport, accommodation, meals, whale watching and entry to the Hanmer Springs hot pools. This trip will only go ahead if numbers are sufficient.

Depart from Christchurch at 8.30 am to the Lincoln area (20 km) visiting seed research trials at AgResearch, Lincoln University & Seed Research Centre, PGGW Kimihia Research Stations and a presentation overview of the NZ seed industry. In afternoon travel to Methven via Rakaia with farm visits in the Barhill area (white clover).
Arrive at Methven Resort by 5:30 pm in time for evening dinner (conference venue)
Please book your own accommodation, the Methven Resort is recommended as that is where the Workshop will be held. See Accommodation page on this website.

Registration dates and prices

- All costs are New Zealand dollars and GST inclusive.

Workshop registration covers all travel to and from Christchurch to Methven, field trips and associated travel, meals from lunchtime on Monday 23 September to lunchtime Thursday 16 September.

Full registration includes the FAR Farmer Focus Day on Tuesday 24 September.
Accommodation should be booked and paid for separately.

- Information

The workshop is being held in Methven, about one hour from Christchurch, so you are likely to require accommodation in Christchurch for the night of Sunday 22 September before the workshop and on Thursday 26 September after the workshop.

During the workshop, the nights of Monday 23, Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 September, you will need accommodation in Methven.
The Commodore Hotel is convenient for Christchurch accommodation. It is near Christchurch International Airport and it where will be held on Sunday 22 September. Coaches will leave from here to go to Methven on Monday 23 September and return there on the evening of Thursday 26 September.
